Well, welcome back.
Sorry about that. I was away for a long time so this is my first post in a while. But back to the subject. Who is this Siemian character? How do you pronounce his last name? Can I buy that helmet? Those are just a few of the questions you may be asking yourself right now. And while I have no idea about the latter two, I can certainly answer the first one.
Trevor Siemian is the 4th-string quarterback for the Denver Broncos. He went to college at Northwestern and started in his junior year. He was injured for most of his senior year, but he caught the eye of Gary Kubiak. So the Denver Broncos (my team!!) drafted him in the 7th round.
Being a Broncos fan, I caught the second half of the first preseason game. At that point I'm pretty much starving for the gridiron. I think, It'll only be backups now-Zac Dysert and maybe that Trevor guy. Why'd we get another passer, I don't know. But football is football, right? So I was surprised when Siemian pulled off a Manning-worthy drive. True it was one set of downs, and then 3rd-and-out. But I was impressed at the technique of his passes, his footwork, and his quick thinking. When you look at the tapes, he always made the optimal decision.
Unfortunately for him, he has a long road ahead of him. He'll have to beat Zac Dysert for the 3rd-string job. Whoever wins that battle will make the team. The other guy may search for a team with an aging quarterback or a poor passer. The Saints, Rams, Texans and Browns would all be good options. And here's where things get tricky: if he beats Dysert, he'll be up against Brock Osweiler for the future of the Broncos. Osweiler looked very impressive the other night. I think his best chance may be with another team. But you never know…he may be an MVP candidate three years from now.
