What We Should Name The Stadium

As I'm sure you know, the Broncos play at Sports Authority Field. You also probably know that Sports Authority is bankrupt and, as such, has no need for a hundred-foot-long advertisement that seats thousands of fans.

Some possible naming rights partners? Quizno's. Arrow Electronics. Level 3 Communications.

As I'm sure you've noticed, any of these would be totally ridiculous. If I'm a football player, I don't want to play at "Jolly Rancher Stadium." (Yes, it may come to that.) I want to play at a real stadium with a real name, like one that honors our troops (Soldier Field), a past owner (Lambeau Field), a great American (Hubert H. Humphrey Stadium, which the Vikings occupied before US Bank Field was built), or our state (Georgia Field).

Last time I checked, the Packers and Falcons were doing just fine.

Why can't we have a name like that?

My idea? Pat Bowlen Field.

Pat Bowlen owned us for over 30 years. We won 3 Super Bowls during his tenure, and he was the mastermind behind the stadium itself. He paved the way to Sunday Night Football, and was a valuable contributor at the owner's meetings. He is also a generous philanthropist, investing thousands of dollars and countless time into our community.

He now suffers from Alzheimer's and is no longer able to fully function as an owner. What better way to simultaneously honor him and raise awareness for Alzheimer's than to name the stadium after him?

If you would like to help, sign the petition at the link below and share it with all your friends.

Thanks.

Studs and Duds: Week 4

10/4/2016

Welcome back! This is a new kind of post for me. I'm going to do one like this every week. In this post, I analyze the action from last NFL week-and what that means for the rest of the season-by examining the studs and the duds from the week. In each analysis, I will discuss where they'll be going next week.

Without further adieu...Week 4's Studs and Duds.

Stud of the Week: Paxton Lynch

Picture
When I saw Siemian being carted off the field, my first thought was "We're doomed." Then, I saw Lynch brilliantly boost us to a dominant win. He looked totally comfortable, and his passing was spot-on. He connected for his first career touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders and looked like a draft steal at number 26 overall.

Next week, Ice Kube will face a tough decision: Siemian or Lynch? Conventional wisdom says to start Siemian, and I think he's definitely the better player. But with Kubiak, you never know. This decision will affect both player's futures: one will stay in Denver, and one will choose to leave in the next few years.

Dud of the Week: New England Patriots

Picture
Man, it is so fun to call the Deflatriots duds. Last week, everyone was treating Gillette Stadium like the Temple of Superior Football, saying, "Look what they can do without Tom Bleepin' Brady!" Et cetera, et cetera.

And now?

Their matchup against the Bills was slated to be a landslide-a mediocre team playing the most yada-yada'd up squad in the league. But the Pats had nothing. They collapsed like a-well, like a deflated football.

But I do think they will enjoy a brief return to glory. It will last exactly one week, where Tom Brady will return to blow out the Browns. Then, they will be embarrassed by the Bengals and the Steelers, making their record at the end of Week 7 4-3, while the Broncos, Vikes, and Eagles look down on them with perfect records. They'll end up missing the playoffs, with a final record of 8-8 and victories against the Cardinals, Dolphins (twice), Jets (twice), Texans, 49ers, and Browns.

Get used to your dud team, Bill Belichick.

Stud: Matt Ryan

Picture
If I had told you a month ago that Matt Ryan was going to be the MVP, you would have looked at me funny.

Yet, here we are. The Falcons are 3-1, far ahead of rivals Tampa Bay, Carolina, and New Orleans. Matt Ryan is the top-scoring player in fantasy football and a strong MVP candidate.

Now for predictions. Yes, the Falcons will win their division. Yes, Matt Ryan will be declared the MVP. And yes, due in no small part to the Falcons, the Panthers will miss the playoffs.

P.S.: Look at this guy for future Hall of fame candidacy. If Terrell Owens can get in, Matt Ryan should.

Dud: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Picture
The Buccaneers proved themselves unworthy of their cool new uniforms with the cool chrome-plated helmets. If their performance on Sunday were a color, it would be Creamsicle orange.

But, I do think the tides will turn for them. They'll be in contention for a Wild Card spot, but will pose no threat to the mighty Falcons. They have a great young QB and a reliable tight end, not to mention a superior defense. If we simply ignore the Denver and Arizona games, things are looking up for this team.

Stud: Los Angeles Rams

Picture
Another hard-fought win for LA raises their record to 3-1. They're tied with Seattle for the division, and I think they'll end up winning it.

So what?

They're doing this with Case Keenum. Jared Goff, even though he's probably not ready to start yet, has a ton of talent. The Rams won't make the Super Bowl this year, but when Goff gets ready to play...look out. (And it doesn't hurt that they get to play the San Francisco Boppy Balloons twice a year.)

Side note: Some NFL fans frequently refer to the Colts as "Baltimore." It looks like I'll be calling LA "St. Louis" all my life. If I had a nickel for every time I've already called them that, I'd have to go by Luke Gates.

Dud: This sort Of Thing
